HEADS Nepal is a non-profit making and non-governmental organization, was officially registered at District Administrative Office (DAO), Kathmandu on Nov. 12, 2006 with the registration number 127, also affiliated with Social Welfare Council in 2009. Before this, it has passed its different historical metamorphosis. In the preliminary phase of its development, a group of inquisitive and conscious youths of Baguwa, Gorkha began a social campaign against the prevailing conservative culture and social system by establishing ‘Human Welfare Association (HWA)’in 1978 AD.A social organization was established in the name of BAGUWA (GORKHA) HEALTH WELFARE COMMITTEE, KATHMANDU in May 14, 1993 A.D. The organization renamed itself in 2006 AD and got registered in the name of ‘Baguwa(Gorkha) Health and Development Society (BHDS)’. The BHDS was transformed into ‘Health, Education, Agriculture and Development Society Nepal (HEADS Nepal)’in 2011 A.D. and officially registered as a social organization based on a collective ownership of its members.
Currently, this organization has more than 900 life members and more than 7000 general members expand over more than 65 districts of Nepal, and also from abroad. This is a member-based and self-help organization and can get support from donor institutions, where the interest of HEADS Nepal is to support the poor and disadvantaged households or communities. Recently, it has started its action oriented research work(Multipurpose Resource Center) at Baguwa, Gorkha with its own resources. In addition, it has also initiated activities at Baguwa to develop this area as a resource centre. Currently some governmental and non-governmental organizations are also interested and support this program. In the future, it will expand its programs to other parts of Nepal, and in other countries also. Head office of this organization is located at Banasthali, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Basically, the vision of Heads Nepal is to develop Well educated, skillful, healthy, self-reliant, inclusive and equitable society.
The mission of Heads Neaal is to provide opportunities for quality education and necessary skills, and health/medical services so that the community members will be able for income generation, food security and livelihood improvement through agriculture, forestry/NTFP, community tourism, micro-enterprises and market promotion program.
The priority areas of Heads Nepal are : 1. Agriculture 2.Health 3.Education 4. Environment 5.Infrastructures
The main target of Heads Nepal is to improve living standard of poor marginalized and disadvantaged people in general and youth in particular.
The Organizational commitments are as follows : • Working with efficiency and long term sustainability. • Valuing the principles of social justice, and empowering the Nepalese youths, women, and children irrespective of class, caste, sex and political belief. • Trying to solve the conflicts of youths; building peace, and keeping deep trust among people. • Believing on the power of committed youth individuals and organization who are desirous to contribute for a sustainable development.
